On 30 April, freedom music lovers, creators and performers in more than 190 countries will celebrate International Jazz Day, initiated by UNESCO in 2011. Jazz is a universal language of freedom and goodwill that unites people of different cultures, religions and nationalities, and promotes and fosters peace, mutual understanding, dialogue and tolerance. Around the world, jazz celebrities such as scientists, composers, musicians, dancers, writers, actors, directors and thinkers join in the celebration of this day by organising a variety of performances and educational activities to promote this unique musical phenomenon, which fosters respect for human rights and freedoms.
The Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO and the Sapieha Palace announce the traditional opening event of the International Jazz Day – ‘Jazz Brunch’, which will take place on 30 April (Tuesday) from 12PM to 1PM on the South Terrace of the Sapieha Palace or in the 1st floor Gallery (depending on the weather).
The programme will feature improvisations by vocalist and flutist Neda Malūnavičiūtė and jazz pianist Richard Banis. Neda Malūnavičiūtė and R. Banys have been performing as a successful creative duo for nine years and are members of the jazz trio Neda/Labutis/Banys. Their programme includes not only jazz standards, but also auteur music and improvisations of Lithuanian composers’ songs.
