Revitalising the Sapieha Palace
The project No. 05.4.1-CPVA-V-301-01-0012, titled ‘Revitalising the Sapieha Palace’ is financed by the European Regional Development Fund under Measure No. 05.4.1.-CPVA-V-301, ‘Revitalising Cultural Heritage Sites’, of Priority 5, ‘Environmental Protection, Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Adaptation to Climate Change’, within the Operational Programme for EU Funds’ Investments 2014-2020. EUR 11 872 255,69 has been allocated for the revitalisation of the complex comprising the Sapieha residence, Trinitarian monastery and hospital buildings (hereinafter collectively referred to as ‘the Sapieha Palace’). The project is scheduled for completion by 31 December 2023.
PROJECT SUMMARY
The Contemporary Art Centre is executing the co-financed project No. 05.4.1-CPVA-V-301-01-0012, titled ‘Revitalising the Sapieha Palace’, within the framework of the Operational Programme for EU Funds’ Investments 2014–2020, specifically under the implementation measure No. 05.4.1.-CPVA-V-301, titled ‘Revitalising Cultural Heritage Sites’, of Priority 5, ‘Environmental Protection, Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Adaptation to Climate Change.’
The project encompasses construction and refurbishment work, along with the purchase and installation of equipment and furniture necessary for providing cultural services. The Sapieha Palace will serve as a multifunctional cultural education centre adapted for cultural activities that cater the needs of contemporary society. The project investments will enable the complete revitalisation of the Sapieha Palace, allowing the cultural heritage site to become fully functional, thus enriching the cultural landscape of Vilnius by introducing a new, unparalleled cultural venue that is relevant to both Vilnius residents and local and foreign tourists.
Refurbishment work has been carried out at the Sapieha Palace in 2011–2014, involving the restoration of the building’s authentic volume, and the renewal of its brickwork and roof.
PROJECT GOAL
The project aims to revitalise the cultural heritage site, namely, the Sapieha Palace, preserving and highlighting its valuable features. It also aims to boost interest in cultural heritage, enhance the accessibility, diversity, and interactivity of cultural services, and increase the number of participants engaged in cultural activities.
