On 13 September at 5 pm, Sapieha Palace’s Great Hall will host a concert as part of Muzika erdvėje (Music in Surroundings), a festival of site-specific contemporary music.

Pianist, composer and technology researcher Zubin Kanga is an internationally acclaimed artist whose work explores how artificial intelligence, motion sensors and hybrid instruments can expand the identity of the performer. Having given the world premieres of more than 170 works at major music festivals, including the BBC Proms, Gaudeamus Festival and Klang Festival, Kanga will present his programme WIKI-PIANO at the festival. Here, technology functions as a living, constantly evolving extension of our reality, responding to the shifting forms of the physical and virtual worlds.

The programme will also feature works by three other composers. Alexander Schubert’s (Germany) Wiki-Piano.Net is an interactive work for piano and an online community, with a score that is continuously transformed according to the principles of a wiki website.

Ben Nobuto’s (United Kingdom) audiovisual composition The Art of Sinking explores transformations of the human subconscious under the conditions of virtuality.

Conceptually complementing the programme will be the premiere of Lukas Butkus’s (Lithuania) Anatomy of Melancholy, a work for piano and video in which the historical theme of melancholy is mediated through internet artefacts and post-ironic digital fragmentation.

For those wishing to join a guided tour of the palace before the concert, a special ticket is available.
