The PLAYGROUND summer programme continues the series’ interest in diverse listening practices and the fringes of exciting contemporary music. The upcoming event features Lazy Diamond — a collective that intertwines ambient electronics, contemporary jazz aesthetics, spoken word, field recordings, and multilingual narratives, creating a distinctive space between a concert, a soundscape, and a dreamlike sonic fiction.
The spotlight of the performance is Lingua (Latin for tongue, language) — an album whose symbol is the charcoal tongue, speaking in the world’s languages. Combining instrumental timbres, everyday sounds, and a constantly mutating vocal, the band members create a sonic space filled with slowed-down time, a nocturnal mood, and dreamlike associations.
More than twenty different languages can be heard in the tracks, including Swahili, Persian, Thai, and many others. The album unfolds docufictional stories of real personalities: on a symbolic plane, Antanas Škėma and Franz Kafka meet Kaija Saariaho and Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, alongside George Gershwin and a Ukrainian lullaby about Sleep and Dream.
This is a concert that invites you to travel through time, cultures, and imagination.
