Anxiety about the past and the future. Unease caused by imposed identities. Attempts to find a common language with the other and the unconventional. Repressed intergenerational stories. Longing for harmony in a world out of joint. Invisible labour and unwanted legacy. Rough contemporary lore in the dark basements of nightclubs. Unrecognizable lifeforms and unfamiliar cultures. Stray memories. Trying to make a place for beauty and harmony no matter what.
In a reality defined by such troubled signposts, it may feel as if you are constantly banging your head against the wall. But maybe one day you will punch a hole in it and see a brighter horizon. In their works, this year’s MA graduates of Vilnius Academy of Arts Department of Photography, Animation and Media Art are probing the probability of that.
From June 3 to 14, 2025, the Vilnius Academy of Arts will be hosting its third annual exhibition of graduating students’ final works. Starting June 4, visitors are invited to explore the final works of the Animation Master’s program, which will be displayed in the cellars of Sapieha Palace—this is the first time these cellar spaces are open to the public.
Exhibited works include:
Aistė Misiūnaitė – Confession of the Night
Katrin Guðmunds Sigrunardottir – Sin
Vilija Simutytė – Between Being and Becoming

During the current exhibition ‘Breaking the Joints’ at Sapieha Palace, we aim to encourage discussions and raise problematic questions relevant to the local animation community.
