Two ensembles – two timbral realms
This double concert brings together two distinct performances – programmes prepared by the Chordos string quartet and the Fleitų 3 flute trio. The aural experiences offered by these two works converge in a joint exploration of timbre and chance.
Arturas Bumšteinas’s Žiūra is written for two quartets – one will perform live and one will be heard on a recording – both using the same harmonic material shaped by random numbers, the only difference being the ordering of the freely chosen segments. This type of construction produces a unique sonic image: constantly evolving yet retaining a recognisable form, not unlike a flame, the surface of water, or the foliage of trees.
Fleitų 3 flute trio’s programme features four contemporary pieces, three of which were written specifically for the ensemble: Hommage a technics by Liepa Vozgirdaitė (2024), Eclair emporte moi by Anton Schukau (2024) for three flutes and live electronics, and Another Time in Fragments by Anton Lukoszevieze (2025) for three flutes and fixed media. Alongside these, there will be a performance of Blanche t‘a vu by Albertas Navickas (2006), a composition for four flutes and a backing track, featuring flutist Vytautas Oškinis. The programme explores the timbral possibilities of the flute and contemporary performance techniques. The four compositions offer four ways to experience the plasticity and transformability of flute timbre.
The programmes by Chordos and Fleitų 3 are not two parts of a single concert but two manifestations of distinct artistic logic united in a shared viewing and listening experience.
