The final PLAYGROUND concert of the summer marks an important milestone for this season, opening a new cycle of international projects and programmes featuring artists from abroad. Appearing on the PLAYGROUND stage in Lithuania for the first time are Spanish composer and sound artist Clara de Asís (Spain / Austria) and Berlin-based flutist Rebecca Lane, whose practices are united by a shared interest in microtonality, sound, and the ways it is perceived.
Within the PLAYGROUND programme, the concert continues the series’ focus on diverse listening practices and the edges of contemporary music.
The international PLAYGROUND programme will continue this fall:
– October 13 – GBSR Duo (UK)
– December 1 – Anzû Quartet (USA)
“If I Was You”
Clara de Asís
Electronics, percussion
35 min.
In “If I Was You”, Clara de Asís interweaves slowly evolving electronic patterns on an analogue synthesizer with small percussion. Through different degrees of amplification, these elements shift in presence and relation, generating spontaneous interactions across frequencies and spaces. The piece reflects on the ambiguity of sound’s identity – how it takes shape over time and how it blurs. Moving between stability and uncertainty, it draws attention to the embodied process of perception.
“Day Falling”
Clara de Asís & Rebecca Lane
Alto flute, voice, electronics
35 min.
“Day Falling” continuously reshapes the relationships between melody, harmony, and environment through microtonal modulations. Balancing precision with fluctuation, it invites a mode of listening in which the interplay between alto flute, voice, and electronics points to the threshold of appearance and disappearance.
