An event in the PLAYGROUND contemporary music concert series

BASS_4 | Lithuanian Landscapes for Double Bass Quartet

Design by Lauryna Narkevičiūtė

The first event of the autumn season in the PLAYGROUND series asks: how is the sound of the Lithuanian landscape changing? In the programme of the double bass quartet BASS_4, it unfolds through fragments of musical memory and the perspectives of contemporary Lithuanian composers. Adaptations of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis’s piano preludes meet works by Dominykas Digimas, Juniper Reminiscent; Rita Mačiliūnaitė, Fading Prayer; and Andrius Šiurys, Beethoven: Psychedelic Variations. The composers’ musical languages differ, as do their ways of listening to the same landscape.

The works featured on BASS_4’s debut album and performed in this concert reflect the ensemble’s artistic direction: to expand the original repertoire for double bass quartet, promote the work of Lithuanian composers, and reveal new possibilities for the double bass as a chamber instrument.
